Mamba Mentality – Not Mama’s Boy Mentality Yesterday at the gym, one of my buddies was complaining about how slow business has been. And honestly, he isn't wrong. Business is tough right now. But somewhere in the middle of our usual trash-talking, I told him: "You need the Mamba Mentality – not the Mama's Boy Mentality." It sounded funny at the time, but there is actually a serious message behind it. The Mamba Mentality is about trying to become the best version of yourself. It means working hard every day, staying disciplined, competing, improving, and refusing to give up when things get difficult. And this applies to everyone! Male, female, or however you identify. The "Mama's Boy Mentality," on the other hand, is sitting around feeling sorry for yourself, complaining about how unfair the market is, and waiting for someone else to make everything better. To be clear, I wasn't actually calling my friend a mama's boy. We talk crap to each other every day, but let's be real, he is more Mama's Boy than Mamba! But here is the truth: We can sit around crying in our soup and complaining to our loved ones about how bad business is, or we can get back to work. We can call our sphere of influence. We can knock on more doors. We can hold more open houses. We can follow up with old clients. We can get out of the house and meet more people. We can expand our network. We can make the calls we have been avoiding. We can work, work, work, and then work some more. No shit – this is a difficult market. It may stay difficult for a while. But if working harder produces three, five, or ten additional sales over the next one, three, or twelve months, you are still probably doing better than you would at a regular job. So stop waiting for the market to rescue you. Stop complaining that things are not as easy as they used to be. Take off your slippers, strap on your boots, or put on those pumps and get dirty. Because the people who survive, and ultimately thrive in this market, will not be the ones who complained the loudest. They will be the ones who worked the hardest. Oh, and that will pay HUGE Dividends in the next good market! Mamba Mentality. Not Mama's Boy Mentality. Interest Rates Tuesday through Friday last week were terrible. On a good note, we have gotten all that back this week with what they call “Peace talks.” It’s truly fascinating to me that we do the same thing over and over again and the markets react the same, but I am not complaining today. We disregarded CPI coming in low as we have this big fear of inflation caused by oil. I get why, but I really like the old days where a bad economy and low inflation meant better interest rates. OK, off my soapbox now.
